What’s the best Alaska train service for you?

McKinley Explorer Experience

The McKinley Explorer runs on a unique schedule. Although service is offered to Anchorage, Talkeetna, and Denali Park, it is a separate train from the Alaska Railroad’s Denali Star. Depending on your travel plans, you may find the McKinley Explorer’s later departure time from Anchorage or earlier arrival time into Anchorage a convenient option. Check the schedule below, and keep in mind that the McKinley Explorer does not offer service to Fairbanks.

Reserved passenger seating in an upper-level dome. Seats have footrests and fold down trays. Restrooms are on the lower level, along with an outdoor vestibule and dining room. Both levels are wheelchair accessible.

Breakfast and lunch are served onboard. Guests rotate through at meal times, as the private dining room seats about 36. There is a full-service bar on the upper deck that also offers a menu of snacks and small plates after 1 PM.

Each car has its own host guide who provides tour commentary, answers questions, and offers gift shop items.
